Towson Commit Visiting Penn State

Tim Farley gave his verbal pledge to Towson University on June 13th and is a solid commitment for them at this point, but recent developments have brought another local program into the picture, one that the Lancaster, Pa., native grew up rooting for every Saturday morning and could change things a bit.

Exactly one month ago offensive guard Tim Farley chose to give a verbal commitment to Towson over offers from Army, Ohio, Toledo, Liberty, Wagner, Hofstra and Stony Brook. The 6-foot-2.5, 285-pound Manheim Township High School lineman is still very solid about that commitment, however when the Nittany Lions come calling in Pennsylvania, recruits tend to listen. We spoke to Farley about his decision to commit early to Towson and how a Penn State offer could affect things.

“I really liked the players and the coaching staff and felt very comfortable while I was there, so I let Coach (John) Donatelli know while I was on a visit there that I wanted to be a Towson Tiger,” Farley said. “Coach Donatelli is a great guy and I just loved everything about it there because they have a beautiful stadium, great facilities and the location is great because it is close to home and my family can be a part of this experience with me.”

“Penn State had been recruiting me all year and eventually asked me to come onto the program as a preferred walk-on which I did not want to do,” Farley explained. “They were my dream school as a kid and I really like Penn State a lot, but I had offers from other schools and felt great about Towson. Recently Coach Larry Johnson has contacted my father and asked us to come up for a visit at the end of July to meet with the coaching staff, so I don’t know what is coming next. I have already told them that I wouldn’t walk on, so I am curious as to what their intentions are obviously. If they actually offer me I don’t know what I would do. It would be a very tough decision for me to make to be honest with you. All I know is that I am solid to Towson right now, so we will see what they have to say at Penn State and go from there.”

Given the lack of scholarships Penn State has to give out this season this is certainly an interesting development to say the least, especially after Farley had already turned down an offer as a preferred walk-on. Perhaps the coaching staff wants to eye him up again to see if he is scholarship worthy or perhaps they want to get him on campus and pitch him on the idea of walking on again with the intention of offering him next season. The only thing that is certain at this point is that we will know what the coaching staffs’ intentions are later this month.
