D'Anton Lynn, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound three-star safety/cornerback from Celina, Texas, missed most of his junior season with a left ankle injury (torn ligaments), but still managed to get 57 tackles, three fumbles recovered and two fumbles caused in six games.
"I'm a very versatile player and play linebacker, cornerback and safety on defense and I also play wide receiver and running back on offense," Lynn said. "I think that really helps me overall and will give me an advantage in college. I really know the game well and can read the offenses quickly.
"I want to improve my hands and work on breaking on the ball quicker."
He benches 265 pounds, squats 420 and has a 35-inch vertical jump.
Lynn, ranked No. 97 in the Southwest by Scout.com, has approximately 21 scholarship offers, but favors three. He said he likes USC, Florida and Penn State solidly over Texas Tech, Louisville, Arkansas and Nebraska. All of his favorites have offered. "I'm not saying these are my top three for sure, but right now these guys stand out.
"I really loved the camp at USC," Lynn said. "I like how competitive they are and they probably had the best receivers I've seen at that camp. I also really like coach Ken Norton, Jr. I have a great relationship with him and he played football with my dad, so we've known him for a while.
"Los Angeles is also pretty nice and I like the city atmosphere. I've lived all over so I'm used to traveling and different types of cities."
Lynn was actually born in Plano, Texas, but only lived there for one year. He spent about five years living in Jacksonsville before moving back to Texas. "That's why I like Florida," he said. "I've always kind of followed them and it's in a great area. They just won the national championship and I've heard amazing things about them."
Another school that Lynn has always followed is Texas Tech, since his dad (Anthony) played running back for the Red Raiders. "They're recruiting me for both offense and defense and said they'd do whatever they could to get me on the field as fast as possible," Lynn said. "I like my chance to play early there and I know the team really well."
Lynn admits that his parents are very involved in the recruiting process. "My dad gives me a lot of help and says that I need to focus on a few schools," he said. "My parents want me to make a commitment before the season starts and I probably will. But my dad said that I should still take official visits even if I commit."
Although Texas Tech is only about six hours away, Lynn insists that distance won't be a factor. "I can always fly home. It doesn't matter."
He plans on visiting Nebraska on July 27 and will visit Florida in August. "I love the tradition at Nebraska and I like the running back coach (Randy Jordan) a lot," he said. "I've heard it's just an amazing football environment and I really want to check them out for myself."
He reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 1060 SAT (two parts).
