Jordan Love could be one of the top prospects in the state of Maryland for the Class of 2009 and has already impressed coaches at the two schools he camped at this summer in Notre Dame and Wake Forest. Love gave us an early peek at which programs he already likes recently in his first interview with Scout.com.
Jordan Love
plays both running back and cornerback for Gilman School in Baltimore, Md., however given that he is already 6-foot, 185 pounds going into his junior year and has been timed at 4.41 in the 40-yard dash, it seems that college programs have already started to covet the athlete in the defensive backfield at cornerback. Love recently camped at both
Notre Dame
and
Wake Forest
and spoke a bit about both programs, as well as some others he likes.
“I went to camp at Notre Dame with
Michael Campanaro
and then stopped down at Wake Forest for camp too,” Love said. “I also attended a pro day at
LSU
where I got to speak with Coach
Bo Pelini
who was a really nice guy. I liked the campus a lot and the weather down South is definitely a plus. They were always a favorite of mine growing up and I am hoping to hear more from LSU.”
“My trip to Notre Dame went really well and the coaching staff told Michael Campanaro and me that they liked us both a lot and would be in contact on September 1st,” Love said. “The campus was really nice and so were all of the people I met in South Bend. They just have a great atmosphere there and it really reminds me a lot of Gilman. Notre Dame has a great tradition for both football and academics and has put a ton of great players through that program. We actually had two players go there recently in
Victor Abiamiri
and
Ambrose Wooden
and I have family in Chicago as I just moved here a few years ago from there, so that is a plus.”
“The staff at Wake Forest said that of the 25 cornerbacks that were at their camp, I would have been one of the three best there,” Love explained. “I liked their campus because there is a lot to do there and it is pretty compact, so everything is within reach and you don’t have to go too far for things.”
Love is very interested in Wake Forest, LSU and the Irish, however he did state that he would also really like to hear from
Florida State
,
North Carolina
,
North Carolina State
and
Miami
as they are all quality ACC programs in his mind. He just spent some time in Wisconsin working out with a close family friend in current
Green Bay Packers
defensive backs coach Lionel Washington and picked up a lot of new technique that will make him even harder to pass against this season.
As a sophomore, Love made 53 tackles and intercepted three passes from his cornerback position. He also carried the ball 33 times for 238 yards and three touchdowns. As a return specialist, he averaged 14.3 yards per punt return and 24.6 yards per kick return.
