Burnette Has an Early Leader

Baltimore, Md., native Chris Burnette hasn't picked up any scholarship offers yet, however he was able to attend camp at one program this summer and has that school out in the lead early for his services should they offer him. He has also been contacted by a number of other programs and should earn some offers with a solid senior year.

Chris Burnette plays both offensive tackle and defensive tackle for Gilman School in Baltimore, Md., however with a 6-foot-4, 247-pound frame most of the looks he is getting at this point are at defensive end. Burnett camped at Wake Forest this summer and was extremely impressed by the Demon Deacons, however there are other schools in the mix for this talented athlete.

"Right now I am being recruited the heaviest by Wake Forest, Connecticut, Duke, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Virginia Tech," Burnette said. "It has really just been a heavy flow of letters from coaches at this point asking for film which I am about to send out here soon and hope to get some positive returns from."

"Camp went really well at Wake Forest and I thought I did really well in the one-on-one drills and showed that I had some speed for a big guy," Burnette explained. "I spent the entire week down there as a former teammate of mine just graduated from Wake Forest and really liked the environment there. I felt very comfortable on campus and am supposed to call the coaches this week to see where I stand in terms of an offer from them because from what I have been told I am pretty close right now. Wake Forest is definitely my top choice at this point and I would really like to go there."

"Connecticut has also been sending me a lot of things and has invited me up for a few visits, but I just have not been able to attend," Burnette stated. "Their head coach (Randy Edsall) came down to my school this year and was a nice guy who was very easy to talk to. I get some handwritten letters from them once in a while and they check in to see how things are going a lot. The staff wants me to take an official there this year."

As a junior, Burnette earned first-team All-City and All-Metro honors as was also a second-team All-State selection. He was also named a member of the Super 22 team by the Baltimore Football Club.

He carries a core GPA of 2.8 and recently scored a 1430 out of 2400 on his SAT, which he will take again this year.
