This weekend marks the beginning of new era for Next Level Athletics as they try their hand at the football camp game. Led by Co-Camp Directors Baron Flenory and KaShann Simmons this weekend will be sink or swim time for the Xtreme Xposure Camp.
Judging by the roster of talent and the exuberance of these two young entrepreneurs I’m guessing the camp will be a success. Flenory who coaches and counsels court adjudicated youth at Glen Mills also doubles up as the traveling linebackers coach for the Scout.com All-American combines. After a stellar career at Valley High School in New Kensington, Pa., Flenory went on to star as a defensive back at D-IAA power New Hampshire. Flenory is confident that the camp will be a success.
Co-founder, Simmons, is a former high school football standout from Plainfield, New Jersey. His success on the football field garnished him a college scholarship to West Virginia University where he played football for the Mountaineers. After college, he went on to work in corporate America where he gained tremendous success in the financial services industry. While climbing the corporate ladder and raising his young son, Kashann began to rediscover his passion for sports and started coaching little league football. He is driven to use his connections from the professional and collegiate levels to help young athletes improve their skills and ultimately further their education.
“We’re excited to get underway and show people what we’re all about,” Flenory said. “We have a star-studded cast and we’re expecting this thing to get bigger and better every year.”
The camp which will be held in Somerset, N.J., at the Somerset Soccer Center is broken down into several different parts. The players will arrive on Friday and participate in a combine from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. which will be conducted by TEST Sports Club. Then, on Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. college coaches from a number of schools including Virginia, UCLA, Maryland, Boston College, Villanova, New Hampshire, Lehigh and Lafayette among others will arrive to see the athletes participate in football drills without any testing.
The athletes will then have breakdown meetings with coaches to critique their camp performances. The camp will then have a media day with various members of the media including Scout.com and then the camp will rap up with 7-on-7 action Saturday evening. The players will be able to see themselves on video as they test in each station. The video will be done by Dave LePiodvin of Interactive Sports Solutions Software. During the combine the athletes will participate in an NFL style event with all the same testing and measuring as the NFL.
Several of the biggest names on the East Coast will be in attendance including DeJuan Miller, Brandon Smith, Will Hill (Pictured), Reggie Ellis, Jharron Armstrong, Rashad White, Dwayne Gratz, Leon Mackey, Grant Mayes, Eric LeGrand, Jarel Lowery, Ed Tinker, Jermaine Robinson, Quamane Bryant, Jordan Todman, David Zapata and Travis Poston, will be among 200 or so participants.
The event will also feature some of the areas top underclassmen from the class of 2009 and 2010 including Joshua Adams, Theo Riddick, Mark Brazinski, Tom Savage and Dennis Mushrush and Andrew Tallman.
As one of the many media partners of Next Level Athletics, Scout.com will have All-Access to the Xtreme Xposure Camp and we will be bringing you video, stories, photo’s and much more live from Somerset, N.J.
