SOMERSET, N.J. -- The Next Level Atletics staff got their X-treme X-Posure Camp underway Friday night at the Soccer Center. The first night was a combine and it gave some of the under the radar type kids a chance to shine.

Judging by the caliber of talent and the level of competition at the first X-treme X-posure Camp, I think it’s safe to say that these guys will have a niche in the business. Several of the East Region’s top players showed up at the camp, some elected not to participate in the combine, but they will workout during the rest of the camp.

Metuchen, N.J. wide receiver DeJuan Miller an Oklahoma commit, Brandon Smith from New Brunswick, N.J., Syracuse commit Grant Mayes from Seton Hall Prep in New Jersey, Dwayne Gratz from Piscataway a Connecticut pledge, Rashad White a Rutgers pledge from Teaneck, N.J. and Reggie Ellis, the talented defensive tackle from Dunbar in Washington, D.C., all elected to sit out of the combine. All but Ellis did however workout outside with Cherokee quarterback Demetrius Richardson.

The rest of the athletes numbering up to around 150 players all took part in a combine that was put on by TEST Sports Club. The athletes were tested in the 40-yard dash, shuttle, L-Cone, bench press and the vertical.

Class of 2009 prospect Malek Redd from River Hill, Md., continued to put on a clinic when it comes to testing as he ran the camp’s fastest forty with a blazing time of 4.41. Another class of 2009 prospect from Plainfield, N.J. Stephen Knox ran an impressive 4.45. Hornell, N.Y., running back David Zapata just keeps looking better. After a long day of travel he still ran a 4.49 Another prospect to keep an eye on is Matthew Brown a talented, but undersized cornerback from The Peddie School. Brown ran a 4.49

Senior quarterback Frank DeNick of Immaculata, N.J. turned in the fastest shuttle time that we saw at 3.96 we did not see the entire result list for the shuttle times as yet. Christiana, Del., running back Dallas Brown ran a 4.20 shuttle.

Cardinal O’Hara, Pa., athlete Stephen Werner turned in the fastest L-Cone time at 6.94 DeNick turned in a time of 7.02 Robert De Los Santos from Wyoming Valley West, Pa. and James Fisher of Immaculata both turned in times of 7.09

Michael Kuhn of Immaculata had the best vertical leap at 35.5 Malek Redd and Doug Alston of Paterson Catholic was not far behind at 34.5 Cyprian Oyomba of Norwalk, Conn., Orlando Fisher of Plainfield, N.J., Quinten White from Cardinal Dougherty, Pa., Sam Stockes from Dunbar, and 2009 prospect Leron Eaddy all turned in jumps of 34 inches.

Lineman Frank Allen from Holy Cross, N.J., set the bar pretty high in the bench as he got 185 lbs. up 30 times. Hanover, Pa., guard Brian Clarke put up 26 reps. Paterson Catholic’s Jarel Lowery and Gloucester Catholic’s Sean Schoppy both put up 21 reps on the bench.

The camp continues today with two practice sessions, film study and a media day.
