"I am playing for the Alabama
Champs in the Nationals right now," added Andrew Steele. "We beat Ohio
Red by 5 last night, so that is good."
Andrew averaged 16 points,
8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals a game for John Carroll as a junior.
"It
was a good year. I was named the Metro Player of the Year in Birmingham, and I
was also one of the 3 Finalist for Class 5A Player of the Year. Hopefully I will
win it this year."
Which colleges have been following Andrew around
this summer?
"Mostly Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and North Carolina."
Any offers?
"I have offers from Virginia, Ole
Miss, Kansas, Alabama, and Tennessee."
Which schools have caught Steele's
eye?
"It is probably between Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee right
now."
The 6' 3", 195 pound point guard has a connection with
the Tide.
"My brother (Ronald Steele) will be a senior at Alabama
next year. I have been down there a lot, and we talk a lot about it. He likes
so much about Alabama, and we have a lot of the same things in common, so I would
probably like it too."
The coaches at Ole Miss are their biggest selling
points.
"Coach Ward was my brother's AAU coach. I have known him since
6th grade. We are very close. Coach Kennedy is also real laid back. I like his
style, real uptempo. Ole Miss is also pretty close to home. I could see myself
fitting in nicely up there."
Tennessee's head coach is also big selling
point.
"I talk to Bruce Pearl a lot. It is also pretty close to home,
and their style of play on defense is the same way we play. They use a lot of
full court presses, so the transition would not be that hard for me if I were
to go to school there."
Andrew is also a star on the gridiron.
"I
play QB. I passed for over 2, 400 yards and 14 TD's last season."
What
is Steele's first love, football or basketball?
"Well, I have been
playing football a lot longer than I have basketball, but I think I am going to
probably concentrate on basketball when I get to college."
Is Andrew
receiving any football recruiting interest?
"I think Georgia Tech
has offered me. Louisville, Alabama, Auburn, and Kentucky are some of the other
schools that are sending me stuff. Tennessee and Ole Miss are too."
Due
to the football schedule, it has made it difficult for him to start setting up
his official visits.
"It is hard for me to squeeze in my official
visits with football and all. Hopefully in August I will start taking some visits."
What
does Steele do best on the court?
"I think being able to get to
the ball, make contact, and still being able to score. I think that is what I
do best."
