Shannon Addresses Hankerson Situation
Leonard Hankerson now joins Adewale Ojomo in waiting for the Clearinghouse to make a decision on whether or not he can enroll into school for the fall semester. Head coach Randy Shannon broke the news to the media on Saturday morning. "It's up to the Clearinghouse," Shannon said. "I can't control it. There's no timetable as to when he'll get cleared. It could be when I get to the locker room, it depends on the Clearinghouse." A lot of people often wonder what, exactly, it means to be waiting for a situation like this. According to Shannon, it could be cleared up right away or it could possibly linger on. "They clear everyone five minutes, every hour, every two days," he said. "The kid is already in as far as everything to do with the University." Hankerson enrolled at UM for summer school before finding out of the problem. Despite the fact that he attended UM for summer sessions, the talented receiver won't be able to start in the fall until things get cleared up. "He was in summer school, but we cannot actually let him start until the Clearing House does," Shannon said. Just when it seemed like Hankerson was the most likely of the incoming freshman receivers to get early playing time this season, the Canes are now taking a wait and see approach. With Jermaine McKenzie's playing status up in the air because of injury, it leaves Daniel Adderley as the only incoming freshman receiver to be suiting up right now. Stay tuned to CanesTime.com as we will continue to monitor the situation.
