"I committed to Alabama today," said Destin Hood from Mobile, (Ala.). "I called coach [Nick] Saban and coach [Lance] Thompson this morning around 7:00 and told them about my decision." "I talked to coach Thompson first. He was very excited. I mean it's another in-state Mobile guy. He was just really excited. Coach Saban was also excited. We were both happy. They were going into a meeting, so it was perfect timing." "There was no sense to wait longer. I knew I wanted to go there for a long time. I wanted to make sure it was the right place." "It's a good place for me. It's just like St. Paul's. There are a lot of people from here going there. The academics are great. It's a good place to make myself better and become a better player." The 6-2, 185-pound prospect is a standout performer in baseball as well. "Coach Saban said he wants me to play both. It would be great. Alabama is recruiting me as a shortstop. They may put me in the outfield." "I have been doing a lot of baseball this summer. We are just going to have to wait and see what happens next year. I am flying out tomorrow to play in an All-American game in San Diego." Alabama has received 11 in-state commitments as Hood continued, "It feels good to be committed to Alabama. It's a start to something good. We have a lot of in-state guys going there. The Mobile guys are starting to come around." "We are going to try to pull them in now. Ivan didn't really hound us. We knew in the back of our head he was going there. Alabama recruited us and did it themselves." Hood chose Alabama over Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State and LSU.
