That
is where the story just begins.
After coming up short on his ACT score,
Todd signed with Pearl River CC and was making a big impact on the Wildcats squat
until the Vols came calling.
"They told me they did not want me to
burn up a year of eligibility, so I took a redshirt after starting in the first
two games. It did not sit well with me so I decided to move back closer to home.
I transferred to N' West CC in the Spring," stated Todd Cox.
The Mississippi
juco ranks only allow 8 out of state scholarships per year, and since Todd had
transferred in the middle of the year, he was not selected as one of the eight
they wanted to use.
"I said OK, well, it is time to just concentrate
on my grades and then I could resign with who ever I wanted to play with. I just
buckled down on my grades and stayed in shape."
And how did he end
up at Ole Miss?
"Because they had been with me since I started
being recruited in high school. When I went back down to Pearl River CC, they
stayed in constant contact with me all the way through now. They were with me
when times were bad."
How tough was it to finally get to Ole Miss?
"I
was having to push myself to get everything done. I had to do a lot of class work
on my on, run on my own, lift on my own. I did not have any coaches telling me
what to do. I had to do it all by myself. I had to grow up in a hurry. But now
I am here. I have coaches that can help me and get back to where I need to be
at."
So how does it feel to finally arrive at Ole Miss?
"It
feels good (with a big ole smile), real good. I have been in junior college for
two years, and it feels good just to be back knowing I have a second chance to
play again."
What are Todd's goals coming into two a days?
"I
just need to get in shape, learn the plays, and earn a starting position."
Has
the year and half off made Todd a little nervous about getting back on the field?
"I
do not think I really have that much catching up to do. It will all come back
to me once I get on the field."
What kind of shape did Todd report
in?
"I am in good shape because I go back to my old high school and
work out with two other walk-ons here that I graduated with. All three pushed
each other real hard."
What are some Todd's personal goals for his
freshman season.
"Just to work hard, get in better shape, and get
up in the rankings where I can get some playing time."
