Florida OL Talks Recruiting
Mike Goodman had a busy summer. He took a lot of visits and learned a lot about the recruiting process. Now it's back to business. "We started (yesterday)," Goodman said of preseason practice. "We looked real good but there's always room for improvement." With scholarship offers from schools all over America, Goodman can now focus on being a senior and having fun with his final season. "The goal is to win every game consistently," he said. "We need to play as a team and hopefully go far. The bottom line is to play as a team and win games." Goodman, 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, talked about the latest on the recruiting front. "Florida stepped up and offered," he said. "I spoke to Coach Holliday last week and I got the offer in the mail. They're an excellent school academically. They're one of the top schools for public universities. They have excellent coaches, a good football program, and it's definitely a place I'm going to look at. My coach informed me that Northwestern will be offering me as well." With several unofficial visits out of the way, it's time to start preparing for some official ones. "I know I'll take them but I don't know where to and when yet," he said. "We have a bye week and I'll possibly take one then and the rest after the season." Goodman spent all summer texting college coaches back and forth but a new rule prevents that. He's had plenty of reading material this week, though. "A lot of them are e-mailing now and that's how we keep in touch," he said. "Plus, a lot of coaches are sending their media guides so I've been browsing through those." When browsing through media guides, most recruits turn directly to the depth chart page. Not Goodman. "I'm not going to base my decision on where I can play as a freshman," he said. "It'll be where I can get the best education. Now having an opportunity to play early will really help though." Who's been e-mailing the most? "Boston College has been, FIU," he said. "I got one from South Carolina. UCF has, the Gators, Wisconsin, Indiana, all of them. I've talked to Coach Stoutland from Miami recently. They're all keeping in touch." Does anyone have the upperhand yet? "No, it's all even still," he said. "I haven't really eliminated anyone and I will start to narrow things down soon to determine which schools will get official visits."
