The Oak Grove Warriors have proven to be one of south Mississippi's top high school football programs over the last several years. One of the top returning playmakers for the Warriors, Charez Virgil, is looking to carry a little more of the workload in 2007. | |||

Charez Virgil Profile "We started practice on Monday," said Charez. "We are just doing one-a-day practices this year. So far everybody looks good." The talented two-way standout expects the Warriors to be contenders for the south state title once again. "We are going to be real good," said Virgil. "We still have a real good defense and we have a good offensive scheme." As a junior, Charez snagged eight passes away from his opponents. Opposing offenses can expect more of the same in 2007. "I am just going to go out and help the defense like last year and try to score more touchdowns this year for the offense," said Charez. "I am real confident about the season." One of the main reasons for Virgil's confidence is the maturation of first year starting quarterback Drew Norwood. "Our new quarterback, Drew Norwood, is going to be real good," said Virgil. "He is way better than he ever was before. He is quicker and his accuracy is better. He is going to do good this year." The 5-10, 170 pound Virgil is drawing looks from throughout the southeast. "I am getting a lot of letters from Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Florida, Auburn and some other schools," said Charez. "I am getting hand written letters from Ole Miss. Coach Jay Johnson from Southern Miss and Coach David Corrao from Ole Miss have been texting me some." Charez is anxiously awaiting his first offer and he has a feeling the ice breaking offer may come from one of his instate schools. "I think Ole Miss might be the first school to offer me," said Virgil. "They are talking about me playing DB for them. I went to their camp this summer. I learned a lot of new stuff while I was there. We did a lot of cornerback drills and we worked on some new techniques. I picked up a lot of things that I can use this year." |
