Wilder has started two a days and already notices a difference in his game.
"I am just a lot stronger. It is like night and ay. I think my route running has improved too, and my burst off of the ball is really good. That is due to my leg strength. I am squatting 530 pounds now. Last year, I was squatting 405."
The 6' 3", 195 pound receiver had a chance to showcase his skills at several camps this summer.
"I went to Auburn, Alabama, Memphis, Louisville, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State's."
Did he earn any scholarship offers from his performances?
"I hot an offer from Ole Miss when I went to their 7 on 7 cam p. The coaching staff watched my film before I came so they knew what to expect. UAB offered me too. I sent some film to them, and then I came down to their camp and did some drills. They liked what they saw from my tape, so they just offered me at the camp when they got a chance to watch me up close. Louisville offered me at their camp although I never participated in the drills. We talked a lot during the camp, and they saw they wanted to go ahead and offer me because they liked what they saw from my tape, and they also evaluated me at my Spring game. They said they were going to be watching me a lot closer now."
The two home state schools are going to further evaluate Wilder before making a final decision.
"Alabama and Auburn said they wanted to see me play this year. Neither team has watched me play in person, which I thought was kind of odd. But they said my performances this year will determine if I get a scholarship offer or not."
Which colleges have caught Marsellos' eye so far?
"Right now, I am kind of looking at Auburn and UAB, but I do not have any favorites right now. I am really wide open. Both those two schools I really have my eye on. Well, really UAB and Memphis more than anybody."
What stands out about Memphis?
"They are just showing me a lot of interest even though they have not offered me. I have not gone up there to talk to their coaches yet, but they still call all of the time. I have not really had any time to talk to them because I am always busy when they call, but they are still showing me a lot of interest even though we have not talked that much. I like the fact that their coaches are still showing me a lot interest even when I have not given them much time. I like that a lot. They are not going to take no for an answer. They are very persistent. I like that."
Has Wilder given any thought about taking in some games this fall?
"I know I am going to go to Ole Miss when they play Florida,
and I always go to the Auburn/Alabama game. I am sure I will see a bunch of games
this Fall, if I have time.
