Orhian Johnson, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound three-star quarterback/athlete from Boca Ciega High School in Gulfport, Fla., has around eight scholarship offers and no real favorites among them.
"I don't really have a top five yet," Johnson said. "I plan to decide that soon though. All the schools that have offered me look good and are good programs."
Johnson said he has offers from Ohio State, Kansas, South Florida, Indiana, Connecticut, Florida International, Cincinnati and Western Kentucky. "I really want to take my visits and see how the coaches interact with the team and what kind of relationship they have with them."
The only camp that Johnson attended was the Friday Night Lights camp at Florida. "They said that they want to see a few of my games this season before they think about offering me.
"I also recently visited Tennessee for a scrimmage and they seemed pretty interested too," Johnson said. "I've been getting a lot more mail from them. I'm also hearing from Ole Miss and Boston College more and more."
Johnson says that most schools are recruiting him for quarterback, however the Buckeyes are telling him he's an athlete in their eyes. "I love the great tradition at Ohio State," he said. "Every year they are a contender and produce great players. They are just always so consistent."
One of Johnson's more recent offers is from Kansas, which is recruiting him for quarterback. "I like the offense a lot," Johnson said. "They run a spread offense and I think it would fit me well. Plus, they are an up-and-coming team that is only going to be getting better."
Johnson will get to display his skills on August 24 for his team's annual Fall Classic (against Tampa Blake) before his season starts on August 31.
He reports a 3.4 core GPA and a 17 ACT, which he will retake.
