The summer camps have wrapped up and the class of 2008 prospects are all starting to hit the practice fields as we gear up for the first games to kick off under the “Friday Night Lights.” The opportunity to see more players and sift through camp reports has led to some shake-ups with the rankings.

The Southwest Region Top 100

The State of Texas continues to have nearly all their top players commit early as some more big names have pulled the trigger since last month. Damian Square of Yates committed to Alabama with Michigan landing their second top 15 player in the Southwest with Sam McGuffie of Cypress Fairbanks pledging to the Wolverines.

In the region only three of the top 20 remain uncommitted with Chancey Aghayere being the biggest name of the bunch. Cyrus Gray of DeSoto and Dion Jordan of Chandler, Arizona also still looking around. Fully half of the top eight uncommitted players in the region hail from Arizona. That spotlights the interestening phenomena of one part of the region going the early commit route, Texas, while the other, New Mexico and Arizona, going at a regular pace in the recruiting race.

Some big movers in our rankings this time around with Sedrick Johnson of Arp moving up in our rankings after some truly impressive performances. Still the biggest move might be from Copperas Cove quarterback/athlete Robert Griffin. Though he did not get much attention early on he has gotten some big-time offers from in state and out of state and he has leaped up in our rankings. This is a case of a player going to the camps and showing that he is the real deal.
