“I only went to one camp this summer, and that was the UAB camp,” Ken Barefield told us from his home in Hoover, (Ala).
“I liked the camp. It was good, and I had fun. I got to talk to the coaches and learn a little more about them while I was there. I liked UAB a lot."
“I did pretty well in the drills. The coaches told me they were interested in me, and they would be watching me this fall. They told me to just make plays and everything would work out for me.”
“Coach [Tim] Bowens is my recruiting coach, and he’s a nice guy. I liked all the coaches at UAB.”
“I was going to go to a couple more camps, but I didn’t get to go. I really wanted to go to 'Bama’s camp, but I really haven’t heard from them. I need to make a lot of plays this season to catch their eye. I would really like the opportunity to play for Alabama and Coach Nick Saban.”
Barefield also shared his thoughts about the upcoming season of the Hoover Bucs.
“We’re going to surprise a lot of people this season. We have to prove ourselves and that has motivated us to work hard this summer. I think we finished up pretty well winning the 7-on-7 National Tournament in July,” Barefield stated.
“Coach Propst says we remind him of the 2004 team that went undefeated. We don’t have a lot of big names on this team--guys that are being recruited by big D-l programs. The same was true for the 2004 team."
“We have a lot to prove to others, as well as ourselves. I’m just looking forward to the season. We’ve worked hard this summer, and I’m ready to get it started."
Ken Barefield is a 6-0, 193-pound wide receiver, and he reports a 4.59 40-yard dash.
