Hoover QB Two-Sport Star

Tyler Ray will play football for the Hoover Bucs this season, but he made a decision to play baseball on the next level. Ray talks with ScoutSouth.com about the latest news..

"I didn't go to any football camps this summer because I've decided to play baseball in college," Tyler Ray said from Hoover, (Ala.).

Ray holds two baseball scholarship offers from in-state schools as he shared, "I have offers from Troy and Samford. Alabama, Auburn, UAB, and South Alabama are still recruiting me."

"I play infield and I pitch, but my future is in pitching. I have thrown up to 92 mph, but so many guys can hit the fast ball now that you have to have some off-speed stuff too. I'd have to say my change-up is my favorite pitch right now."

Ray talked of a time-frame for his decision, and he shared his thoughts about committing.

"I would make a decision in November if the right opportunity came along," he stated. "However, if it doesn't I'll wait until after my senior season to make my decision."

We changed gears as Ray discussed the upcoming football season at Hoover.

"I expect nothing less than another appearance in the state title game. I think people are under estimating us this season, and that gives us something to strive for. We like being the underdog. It makes us work harder," Ray exclaimed.
