Gophers are Motivated

Spencer Reeves says that Minnesota is recruiting him the hardest. "They were my first offer and have been on me since then," Reeves said. "I see them doing great with the new coaches. They have a very good attitude and are very motivated to turn it around. I think they'll do big things...I planned on committing during the summer, but I started to get more offers and decided to wait..."

Spencer Reeves, the 6-foot-1.5, 205-pound three-star linebacker from Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas, has over 20 scholarship offers but says that two schools stand out, at least marginally.

Reeves, ranked No. 66 in the Southwest and No. 15 nationally as a weakside linebacker by Scout.com, said he favors Minnesota and Texas Tech slightly over Kansas State, Alabama and Colorado. All have offered as well as Colorado State, SMU, Arizona, Baylor, Kentucky and several others.

"I planned on committing during the summer, but I started to get more offers and decided to wait and take my visits first," Reeves said. "I want early playing time, a good grad rate, nice coaches and great facilities."

He says that the Gophers are recruiting him the hardest. "They were my first offer and have been on me since then," he said. "I see them doing great with the new coaches. They have a very good attitude and are very motivated to turn it around. I think they'll do big things."

Reeves hasn't scheduled any official visits yet, but says he's close to doing so. "I've been talking to Texas Tech about setting up a trip soon. I talk with their coaches and I really like the program overall," Reeves said. "They are known for their offense, but I'd want to go there and make them known for their defense too."

The only school in his top five that he's visited is Alabama as he attended the Tide camp during the summer. "I like the program a lot and with Nick Saban I think they'll do well," he said. "He's a great coach and I just felt really comfortable there. I really like the facilities and the dorms and weight room."

Another program that Reeves feels he'd fit in well with is Kansas State. "They run a 3-4 defense and that's what my high school runs," he said. "I think I could jump in there and already know the system. I think I could get early playing time there."

Skyline starts their season on September 7 against Samuel High School from Dallas.

He reports a 3.7 core GPA and is planning a Sept. first-time SAT.
