Jason McNair Profile
Jason has 87 career touchdowns and he is within striking distance of the state record of 118 held by Dicenzo Miller. His run to the record took a bit of a detour this summer.
"I have been in a boot most of the summer," explained McNair. "I had turf toe real bad. I just started back running. It's been kind of hard on me. I haven't been able to run pretty much all summer."
A trip to an out of state doctor revealed an injury that could have slowed Jason all season.
"Steve (McNair) took me to a doctor in Nashville and they found a fractured bone in my toe, so I have had to wear a boot a lot," said Jason. "I have been working with a trainer to work on my speed. I am getting back up to speed now. I am ready to get out there. I figure I'm about 90% right now."
McNair at 90% is better than most running backs at 100%. The touchdown machine is anxious to get back into action this Friday night.
"We open up with Stringer this week," said Jason. "We look pretty good so far. Julius (McNair) looks great. He should have a big year."
Mount Olive has the athletes and the potential to go all the way, but Jason is not ready to book any reservations for Jackson just yet.
"Puckett will be a team that will be in our way and we have five new teams to deal with this year," said McNair. "There could be some teams out there that could stop us, but we're ready."
Earlier this summer Jason was named to the Clarion-Ledger's Dandy Dozen team. The Dandy Dozen is a collection of the State's top high school senior football players. The honor was very well received by the deserving tailback.
"It was real nice," said McNair. "We went down there and stayed all day. They fed us for free and they took a lot of pictures. I played against some of those guys, so I knew some of them."
Jason reports that he struck up a friendship with another Dandy Dozen member that carried over to one of two summer camps he was able to attend.
"I talked to the kid from George County, Alonzo (Lawrence)," said McNair. "I saw him at the Southern Miss camp and we traded a few words down there when we were competing against each other. You know how that is. He is a real good player."
McNair is back in shape and expects to be back in form in the next couple of weeks. He knows that a strong senior season should produce some college options.
"I have heard from a lot of schools, but not as may people as I was before they stopped the text messaging." said Jason. "I still get a lot of letters. I am still getting them from Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida, Memphis, Tennessee and a few more. I am still waiting for my first offer."
