Bevins Waiting For Offers

Matt Bevins has a strong and consistent leg and could probably end up punting and kicking at the collegiate level, but is being recruited as a kicker at this point. Right now he has yet to pick up his first scholarship offer and is playing the waiting game as most kickers around the country have to do.
Matt Bevins
, a 6-foot-3, 186-pound kicker from Warwick High School in Newport News, Va., may not hold an offer, but with his experience and talent it seems like it is only a matter of time at this point. Bevins challenged a Division I level kicker as a freshman at Warwick High School and has not looked back after taking over the starting duties as a sophomore.
“Right now I think
East Carolina
is the closest school to offering me and the program that I am the most comfortable with,” Bevins explained. “I have a very good relationship with Head Coach Skip Holtz and the rest of the staff and feel very comfortable with them. They told me they are planning on offering a kicker, but that it would probably be around mid-season, so I am just waiting patiently. East Carolina is a program on the upswing and is a nice school with great facilities.”
“Old Dominion and Liberty are two other programs that I think are very interested and could offer and I also get a lot of mail from other schools,” Bevins said. “Right now I would say the majority of mail comes from
North Carolina
,
North Carolina State
,
West Virginia
,
Richmond
and William & Mary.”
Bevins is 15 of 19 over the past two seasons on field goals and has a long of 47 yards. He has only missed one point after attempt, which was blocked. He averages 39.5 yards per punt and 65 yards per kickoff.
