Eyes on Lincoln

"Nebraska is pretty cool," Colin Shumate said. "I liked the campus and they have a lot to be impressed with. The facilities are state-of-the-art and they have great tradition. There's a lot of high expectations for that program and I think they'll just continue to improve. Coach Bill Callahan knows what he's doing and they are getting a lot of good recruits."

Colin Shumate, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound three-star linebacker from Las Vegas, Nev., is playing the waiting game in hopes of getting a few more offers.

Shumate still only has offers from Wyoming, Colorado State and San Diego State. He continues to favor Nebraska (camp) slightly over California, San Diego State, Boise State and Stanford and hasn't set up any official visits yet. The Huskers have always been Shumate's favorite

"I'm kind of waiting to play a few games and see if I get any more offers," Shumate said. "I'd like to take my official visits toward the end of the season. I don't want them to get in the way of my team. Stanford, Nebraska and Cal all said they want to see me play this season and hopefully will offer. I've also been hearing a lot from Air Force and I'm open to them too.

"Even if I did get more offers I think I'd still like to take a few visits," he said. "I don't think I'd commit right away to any school."

He says that San Diego State is recruiting him the hardest. "I think they are an uprising program in the Mountain West Conference," Shumate said.

"Nebraska is pretty cool," he said. "I liked the campus and they have a lot to be impressed with. The facilities are state-of-the-art and they have great tradition. There's a lot of high expectations for that program and I think they'll just continue to improve. Coach Bill Callahan knows what he's doing and they are getting a lot of good recruits."

Shumate, ranked No. 127 in the West as a middle linebacker by Scout.com, says he's already sent in his application to Stanford. "Based on my test score I'm qualified, but I haven't gotten an official acceptance yet," he said. "Coach Jim Harbaugh is a great guy and very passionate. He loves to win and brings a new attitude to the team that everyone has really bought into."

Las Vegas opened their season with a 12-42 loss to Pine View High School from St. George, Utah. Next up is Madera High School from northern California.

He reports a 3.8 core GPA and a 1700 SAT and 25 ACT.
