"It was good to get that first
win out of the way," added Marcus Rucker. "We played pretty good, but
we have a lot of room for improvement."
Marcus got a taste of what
it is going to be like this year.
"They were double teeming me all
night. Last year I did not have that name, so I did not face many double teams,
but this year they know me so I am going to be double teamed all year. I will
just have work that much harder. It will make me a better player though."
Whitehaven
faces Failey this Friday at John P Freeman, but they will be without one of their
top players.
"Tenarius Wright turned his ankle in practice. He did
not play in our first game either, but he is coming back for Region play."
Has
Rucker received any new scholarship offers?
"No sir, still the
same three, Indiana, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State."
Outside of
the schools who have offered; are there anymore colleges that are heavily involved?
"Yes
sir, Memphis, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisville, and MTSU."
Which
colleges have caught Marcus' eye so far?
"Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana,
and Ole Miss."
Alabama is new to the list; when did they pop up on
the radar?
"They are just a big school that I have liked since I was
a little kid."
Tennessee has also started to become more of a factor.
"I
went to the Tennessee camp, and I did good, but they did not offer me because
they needed to see my transcript first. We talked about it a couple of weeks ago,
and hopefully my coach has gotten it to them. They said they were going to call
me the first day when they can start calling us back (September 1st), so I will
find out then."
In the meantime, Marcus will take in his first college
game of the season this Saturday to check out one of his top schools.
"Ole
Miss sent me a letter in the mail about me calling them and making arrangements
for a visit. I talked it over with my mother, and she said it was all right. Me
and some of my teammates are actually going to go watch Ole Miss play Memphis
this weekend."
