Silence Ain't Golden

Travis Benjamin claims to have offers from Miami, LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn and is hoping the other in-state schools come through as well. "I haven't heard from Florida or Florida State in a little while," he said. "It's been since like the beginning of the summer. I'm going to wait until like the middle of the season before I start setting up my visits...nobody has talked with me..."

Travis Benjamin, the 5-foot-11, 160-pound three-star wide receiver from Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Fla., says he still only has four scholarship offers and the same top four .

"It's still Miami, Florida, Florida State and LSU," Benjamin said. "It's been really quiet recently and I haven't really been hearing from many schools since the texting rules change. Hopefully things will pick up in September when they can start calling again."

Benjamin claims to have offers from Miami, LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn and is hoping the other in-state schools come through as well. "I haven't heard from Florida or Florida State in a little while," he said. "It's been since like the beginning of the summer.

"But I like them both because they are close to home and great programs."

He plans on attending the Florida/Troy game on Sept. 8 unofficially. "I'm going to wait until like the middle of the season before I start setting up my visits, but really nobody has talked with me about that yet."

Growing up, Benjamin said he always followed Miami. "They are rebuilding right now and I think they will be on top again. They always have NFL players and I think they'll be a top 5-10 team this season," Benjamin said. "Coach Randy Shannon is a great coach and seems like a good person too."

His former teammate, Ernest McCoy, is a freshman offensive lineman for LSU. "Ernest says that I'd really love it there," Benjamin said. "He says that they are like one big family and do everything together. I also really like that they are a great program every year."

Besides Florida and Florida State, another school that Benjamin says he'd like to get an offer from is Ohio State. "If they offered me they'd be in my top five," he said. "But they haven't really been recruiting me."

Glades Central open their season on Aug. 31 against Lakes High School in Palm Beach, Fla.

He reports a 2.8 core GPA and a 17 ACT, which he may retake in the fall.
