The secondary is the strongest unit in California for the class of 2008, led by safeties Rahim Moore and E.J. Woods and cornerbacks Robert Golden, Anthony Dye and Aaron Hester...

CORNERBACKS:

One of the strongest, and deepest, cornerback crops in the state in a long time is led by Golden, from the DB Factory at Edison. Dye and Hester, future teammates, are two more excellent corners, and Howell is one of the best pure athletes in California.

1. Robert Golden, Fresno (Calif.) Edison- Arizona
Coach says he may be the best corner to come through Edison, high praise given their tradition.

2. Anthony Dye, Corona (Calif.) Santiago- UCLA
Former hockey player has good speed, good instincts and great footwork.

3. Aaron Hester, Compton (Calif.) Dominguez- UCLA
Will team with Dye in Westwood for an excellent cornerback duo.

4. Delano Howell, Newhall (Calif.) Hart- Stanford
Made his mark in high school as a running back, but cornerback is where he’ll have an impact in college.

5. Clint Floyd, Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw
The MVP of the B2G Elite Football Program this summer, Floyd is also an excellent receiver.

6. Kevin Frank, Elk Grove (Calif.)
Leads Elk Grove’s offense as a quarterback, but his future is in the secondary.

7. Marcus Turner, Long Beach (Calif.) Cabrillo- Stanford
The son of the former NFL safety of the same name, Turner has the smarts and savvy for the Pac-10.

8. Anthony Gobern, Fair Oaks (Calif.) Del Campo- Washington
Helped lead Del Campo to the CIF Section title as both a running back and defensive back.

9. Rashad Evans, Union City (Calif.) James Logan
Had a section leading seven interceptions as a junior and returned two punts for scores.

10. Steven Christian, Sacramento (Calif.) Kennedy
Has good speed and has a lot of versatility, playing numerous positions.

SAFETIES:

Moore and Woods give UCLA an outstanding safety tandem, while Hurrell, a linebacker in high school, projects to be an impact safety for Cal. McAllister is the top quarterback in NorCal, but he’ll play safety at USC. Telemaque continues the long line of outstanding Poly safeties, the same for Leslie at Edison.

1. Rahim Moore, Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey- UCLA
One of the best safety prospects out of the state in the last few years, Moore has 14 picks the past two seasons.

2. E.J. Woods, Encino (Calif.) Crespi- UCLA
Woods is also a potential bigtime running back, but his first love is safety.

3. J.P. Hurrell, San Mateo (Calif.) Serra- Cal
The playmaking linebacker will suit up in the secondary for the Golden Bears.

4. Drew McAllister, Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista- USC
An excellent athlete, McAllister is the top quarterback in NorCal, but USC loves him at safety.

5. Vaughn Telemaque, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly
Had probably the best summer of any defensive player in the Golden State.

6. Brandon Leslie, Fresno (Calif.) Edison
After missing junior season with a shoulder injury, Leslie is ready to roll as a senior for the Tigers’ vaunted secondary.

7. John Boyett, Napa (Calif.)- Oregon
Boyett was one of the most prolific players in California as a junior, doing a little bit of everything.

8. Johnathan Franklin, Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey- UCLA
