Lamaar Thomas, the 5-foot-10.5, 178-pound four-star running back/wide receiver from Friendly High School in Fort Washington, Md., continues to strongly favor Maryland, Illinois and Ohio State.
"At one point in time Ohio State was my number one choice, but now I really feel they are all about even," Thomas said. "I could see myself playing at any of them and am comfortable at all three of these school."
Thomas, ranked the No. 28 running back in the country by Scout.com, will be visiting Maryland on Sept. 15 for the West Virginia game. He says the Terps are recruiting him the hardest. "It's home," he said. "It's only 20 minutes away and it would be great to be close, but it's not like it's a big thing.
"I like how they plan on using me. They said they want me at running back and that they'd want me in open space and give me the ball. I really think that Maryland is gonna be solid this season and should be able to be a dominating team in the ACC."
On Sept. 22, Thomas heads to Ohio State for an official visit. "It's a great family environment there and my parents really like it," Thomas said. "They said that I'd be able to make an impact at receiver for them. I really like their tradition and they are always a highly ranked school."
His final visit will be to Illinois on Sept. 29. "I like my recruiting coach (Mike Locksley)," he said. "They are an up-and-coming program and it would be nice to come in and help them win. They want me as an athlete and said that I'd fit in well with their spread offense.
"I talked with (head) coach Ron Zook on Monday and he's really cool," Thomas said. "We just talked for a few minutes and he said he was excited to see me when I vissit.
"I also got a call from (Tennessee head coach) Philip Fulmer before their game," he said. "I like Tennessee too. They are probably number four behind these three, so they still have a chance."
Thomas says he'll make his decision in early October shortly after his Illinois visit. "I don't plan on taking any other visits."
He reports a 2.8 core GPA and a 860 SAT.
