The 6' 2", 200 pound Missouri native is the man that Caruthersville turns to when they need to fill a void.
Last year
Rashad Fields
played receiver due to Caruthersville lack of depth. Rashad more than held his own as he caught 5 TD passes and ran for 3 more. Rashad is also one of the main defensive playmakers, and he did not disappoint last season as he chipped in 4 interceptions and 96 tackles at the safety position, the position most college recruiters project him to play on the next level.
Turn the clock to the '07 campaign. Caruthersville graduated their starting tailback, and they simply were not getting the production they needed from the guys in line, so they moved Rashad over to running back the week before the season opener.
How did Rashad fair?
"Well, we lost, so I guess not good enough., added Rashad Fields. "We got beat 30-24 by Sikeston. I am playing running back now. On offense, I had 104 rushing yards. On defense, I had 10 tackles, 1 interception, and I took back a fumble 30 yards for a TD."
How would Fields rate his play for the season opener?
"I think I did well. Running back is new to me. It is very different. I saw my film Saturday. I got the butter flies because I never played running back, but it was alright."
What does Rashad want to improve on from game one to game two?
"My decision making. Sometimes I made the wrong decision with my field vision. Sometimes I would make the wrong cut. I want to get better with my vision.'
Fields committed to the Rebels early last Spring and has been to Ole Miss, unofficially, several times during that time frame. He will be making another trip down to Oxford on Saturday.
"I am taking our QB down there with me. Also, two of my real good friends and former teammates play for Missouri. I know a lot of the players over there. It will be a lot of fun watching those two teams play."
Does Rashad still feel solid about his commitment to the Rebels?
"I love it down there. They have everything I am looking for. My mind has been made up."
