Successful Opener for McGloin

Matt McGloin and his teammates at West Scranton High School have high expectations going into this season and things are looking good after their first game of the season. We caught up with the signal caller recently to see how the first contest of his season went and to check in on his recruiting picture.

Scranton, Pa., product Matt McGloin and his teammates had a great start to the season, scoring 42 points in the first half against Scranton Prep before putting in the second team, however the 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback didn’t have to do much as his running backs were extremely effective. We talked to McGloin about his first game back and what teams are showing interest in him as of late.

“We were up 42-0 at the half and put the backups in for the second half,” McGloin said. “I went 3 of 5 for 62 yards and a touchdown and had a 30-yard touchdown pass to Hubie Graham called back on penalty. Our offensive line and backs just did a great job and were able to really run the ball at will.”

“I know that Coach (Jim) Pry from Illinois is coming to our game tomorrow against Riverside to watch me play,” McGloin explained. “I like the coaching staff there and see that they work very hard with the recruiting process. They are an up and coming team that could be dangerous down the road.”

“Temple and Rutgers have also contacted my coach recently and I know Iowa and Pittsburgh are coming out to watch us as well. I have also been getting handwritten letters from Boston College, so I will be calling them tonight to see what’s up.”

As a junior, McGloin completed 125 of 206 passes for 1718 yards and 17 touchdowns.
