Schell Takes a Visit

Pat Schell traveled to Morgantown, W.V., this past weekend to visit a friend attending the university and took time while he was on campus to get a feel for one of the programs that has been recruiting him so far. He has also been in contact with a number of other programs at this point and will send out senior film soon.

When you’ve got a 6-foot-4, 330-pound teenager that is part of the 1500-pound club in your weight room and can then go dunk a basketball in the gym, you’ve got yourself one heck of a raw athlete to develop for the future. Pat Schell is just that type of raw athlete, however after missing last season because he transferred into Holy Spirit High School he will have to fight and claw these first few games to show college coaches on film that those athletic abilities translate onto the football field.

“I went down and visited my buddy who plays baseball for West Virginia this weekend and really liked Morgantown a lot,” Schell explained. “It was very different from what I’m used to where I live. Everything was very clean and there were a bunch of trees and hills there. The people were also very nice at all times and it was really just a different experience then what I’m used to.”

“While I was there I did talk to one of the wide receivers about the school and he told me a bit about the strength program which I’m obviously very interested in,” Schell said. “I was also really impressed with the housing there. I have been getting some letters from the coaching staff this summer and probably should have contacted them before I went so I could look around the facilities.”

“Other then that, it is really the same schools recruiting me, however Rutgers has been sending by far the most mail now and La Salle just sent me a handwritten letter. Others have I have heard from have been Boston College, North Carolina State, Penn State and Pittsburgh. All of the schools want to see my film since I didn’t play last year and my head coach says he is very confident that coaches will be very impressed after the way I have played in my first few games.”

Schell reportedly dead lifts 605 pounds, squats 650 pounds and bench presses 400 pounds. He holds a national bench press record at power lifting camp in Carteret, N.J., for the 16-19 year old age bracket. His Head Coach Bill Walsh says that he can do well over 30 reps at 225 pounds on the bench.
