D'Anton Lynn, the 6-foot-1, 177-pound four-star safety/cornerback from Celina, Texas, took his first official visit to Penn State last weekend (Sept. 8).
"I liked the game time atmosphere," said Lynn, ranked by Scout.com as the nation's No. 18 safety. "That's what impressed me the most. I love their tradition and how the fans go crazy there. The always fill the stadium and the student section goes nuts. They fill that area like an hour before the game and it was cool because they were all chanting my name."
Lynn's player host was freshman defensive back Chaz Powell. "I got to hang out with all the freshman and they just showed me around," he said. "We all really got along well. I like the town because it's small with a lot of trees. It's just a nice place."
Besides hanging out with the players, Lynn also says he enjoyed getting to know the coaches better. "I spent most of Sunday talking to the coaches," Lynn said. "We went over what it would be like if I went there and they said that they wouldn't redshirt me because they are going to need a nickel back and that's where they would put me. They said that I'd probably end up playing corner or safety though.
"Most schools are recruiting me for cornerback and that's probably where I'll end up," he said. "Right now I'm playing safety in high school."
Last time we spoke with Lynn he mentioned Penn State and USC as his top two and his official visit to State College did nothing to hurt the Nittany Lions' chances. "It's still Penn State and USC," he said. "They are tied for first, but Florida is actually very close. I like how well they are playing and how young the team is. It's gonna be tough for them to repeat as national champs because they are so young, but they'll be a top team for a while."
Trailing the Nittany Lions, the Trojans and the Gators are Texas Tech, Nebraska and Louisville. All of his favorites have offered and Lynn says he has 23 total scholarship offers.
"I definitely want to get it all over with as soon as possible, but I'll try to take a few more visits before I decide."
One trip that Lynn says he plans to take is to USC. "I've been to USC before and I like Los Angeles," he said. "It's different from Penn State because L.A. is a big city and there's a lot more to do there besides football. I'm really excited to go see a game at USC though. I want to see what the game time atmosphere there is like and check out their tradition."
With both the Trojans and Huskers in Lynn's top five, he says he'll be watching this weekend's game between them closely. "Coach Bill Callahan is a really good coach and he knows what he's doing," he said. "I think he'll get them back to the top, but I think USC will win. I'm sure Nebraska will play well and they are a lot better this year, but USC is No. 1. It'll be a fun game."
Celina High School is off to a great start and is 2-0. Lynn has 25 tackles and one interception on defense. Offensively, he has four catches for two scores.
He reports a 2.5 core GPA and a 1060 SAT.
