The 6' 2", 200 pound Caruthersville (MO) native learned on Wednesday that his scholarship offer to the University of Mississippi is no longer guaranteed.
"I spoke with Coach Freeze Wednesday night," added
Rashad Fields
. "He told me that I when I went down to their camp this summer, I left early because I had an injury. Well, he told me that they have a new defensive coordinator, and he was disappointed that I left early. He said basically, I have to perform my senior year to keep my scholarship. He said that I need to keep sending them some tape, look around at some other schools, and they will make a decision later on."
How does Fields feel about this?
"I am not going to lie, it hurt a little bit. It was shocking to me, but I guess I have to perform this year to show them they did not make a mistake. But it kind of opened my eyes that maybe I need to look at some more schools and have them look at me. My heart has always been to play for Ole Miss, but like when you go through a breakup with your girlfriend, some times you have to move on and go find a prettier one (laugh)."
Who would Rashad like to start looking his way?
"Missouri. I have a few friends who play over there. I went down to Ole Miss when they played Missouri too, and it looks like they have turned things around over there. I am probably going to get my coach to get in contact with them to let them know that I am back on the market. Hopefully I will hear something from them pretty soon."
Rashad opened the season with a 104 rushing yards, 1 TD, 10 tackles and 1 interception. The second game Fields had a TD run and collected 7 tackles. And Friday, he made every tackle in the first quarter before leaving with turned ankle. He fished the game with 12 tackles and 1 fumble recovery.
