The
former St. Augustine (LA) product played in all 13 games for the Tigers in 2006
as a redshirt freshman and was Auburn's most productive linebacker during spring
practicel. "I redshirted in 2005 and played every game last year.
I had 33 tackles and 3 sacks last year. I led the team in tackles in two games,
and after Spring drills, I kept my starting job," added Patrick Trahan.
But
after a stellar redshirt freshman season and spring drills, academics took its
toll.
"I got behind, academically, and I had to leave Auburn. I transferred
to N' West CC this summer to get my books back in order. It was a tough lesson,
but one that made me grow up in a hurry. Really, I would not take back any of
it if I had to do it all over again. I am a much better man because of this."
Auburn's
loss was N' West CC's gain, as Patrick took over the strong side linebacker from
day one, and has made an immediate impact for the Ranger's program.
Trahan
has collected 30 tackles, 5 for losses, 3 sacks, and 9 QB hurries for the 2-1
Rangers.
"We have had a really good start this year. I am having a
blast over here. Being back with Alonzo Horton is cool. And there are so many
great players and coaches over here. Like I said, I would not take back any of
this back. I am learning more and more every day I am out on the field."
Now
we know why Coach Tuberville for Auburn was sick in his stomach after learning
that his star defensive player was academically ineligible for the '07 season.
Where
next for Patrick?
"I do not know. I am going to Ole Miss today with
Alonzo (Horton) to talk with them and look at things. Back in high school, they
started recruiting me. Coach Frank (Wilson) is real good friends with my father,
so there is that comfort level with him."
Will this be Patrick's first
trip to Oxford?
"No, I have been there before. We (Auburn) played Ole
Miss there last year. I had a pretty good game against them. I went over there
my junior year on a visit. I saw some of the campus, but not the whole campus.
I just want to check out the school. I have already been through the recruiting
process. I am just trying to see if the situation is going to work out for me."
The
Rebels troubles at linebacker this season has also caught Trahan's attention.
"I
only have two years left when I leave here, so I really have to focus on that.
I know Ole Miss is looking for some immediate help. That is a plus for me."
Anymore
schools involved?
"Not right now. I have not gotten any calls, but
several schools have talked to my coach, but I have not spoken to any of them."
