When Oxnard (Calif.) Santa Clara athlete Cierre Wood (6-0, 195), one of the elite prospects in the West in the class of 2009, picked up his fourth offer on Monday.
"Cierre was offfered by Wake Forest," said Santa Clara athletic director Mike Schabert."
It's Wood's fourth scholarship offer, joining offers from Nebraska, Florida and San Diego State.
Wood is also the second Saints' player to be offered by the Demon Deacons. Wake offered his teammate, senior tight end Randi Vines, during the summer.
This year, Wood is off to another outstanding start. In a 20-20 tie against L.A. Baptist, Wood scored all of his teams 20 points. He took the opening kickoff back 91 yards for a score and scored on a 63 yard and 20 yard run and also scored on a two-point conversion. Wood finished the night with 257 yards on 24 carries for a total of 348 all-purpose yards. He also had three touchdowns called back because of penalties.
Wood helped the Saints to one of their finest seasons in decades, a 10-2 record in 2006 and a CIF Quarterfinal appearance. He was named the 2006 California State Sophomore of the Year and First Team All-State, while also earning all-CIF First Team honors, All-Ventura County (Coaches and VC Star) and All-League.
During the 2006 season, Wood had 2,480 all-purpose yards, 1,407 coming on the ground (12.03 ypc) and 595 coming through the air (37.19 per catch). He scored 25 touchdowns (17 rushing, seven receiving and one a kick return).
Wood was selected this month to the GoldenStatePreps.com Pre-season All-State Underclass Team.
