"I like Florida because they have a great offense and they always find a way to get their athletes the ball," Mark Ingram said. "They have great playmakers and they've also talked with me about playing cornerback." Ingram's father played for Michigan State and the Spartans are only 40 minutes from home. "I really like the new coaches there. Right when they got there they came to my school..."

Mark Ingram, the 5-foot-10, 202-pound three-star running back from Southwestern Academy in Flint, Mich., has helped lead his team to a 4-1 record with 97 carries for 1049 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Defensively, Ingram has 23 tackles and one interception. He benches 315 pounds and has a 34-inch vertical jump.

"I have a good combination of power and speed," Ingram said. "I can get the tough yards, but can also make a move and break a big run. I run good routes and catch the ball well. I'm versatile.

"I want to improve my pass blocking and have a better awareness of the blitz," Ingram said.

Ingram says he has 14 scholarship offers, but his top school, Florida, hasn't offered yet. He said the Gators lead slightly over Tennessee, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Washington.

"I grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., so I've also followed the Florida schools," he said. "I lived there for about seven years because my dad (Mark Ingram I) played for the Dolphins.

"I like Florida because they have a great offense and they always find a way to get their athletes the ball. They have great playmakers and they've also talked with me about playing cornerback."

While Ingram admits it's an advantage having a father who played in the NFL, he says he's not pushing him towards any specific school. "He doesn't favor anybody," Ingram said. "He says he's just going to back my decision, but it's definitely nice having a dad who's been there and already gone through the whole thing."

His dad played for Michigan State and the Spartans are only 40 minutes from his house. "I really like the new coaches there," he said. "Right when they got there they came to my school. They seem really high on me and said that I can make an impact there immediately. Also they are really turning it around. They are looking really good this season and they've got a big test this weekend (Sept. 29) against Wisconsin. It'll be a great game, but I can't say I'm rooting for anyone. I'm just a big fan of college football and just want to see a good game.

"But I've been impressed with Wisconsin so far and how they've handled the pressure of being a top team," he said. "We'll see how they do against Michigan State."

Besides Michigan State, the only other school that Ingram has already visited (unofficially) is Tennessee. "I like that they always have good running backs," he said. "It's a great environment for football and the fan support there is amazing. It's just a really nice college football town."

Ingram hasn't scheduled any official visits yet. "I'm just focusing on my season right now," he said. "I won't set any up until later in the year.

"I talk with Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Washington every week," Ingram said. "They send letters all the time too and are recruiting me the hardest.

"Iowa says that I could make an immediate impact there too," he said. "I like how the coaches are really down-to-earth and stress character and being a good person along with being a good football player.

"Washington has been on me pretty hard too and I've got a great relationship with their coaches," he said. "I really like coach Tyrone Willingham and how he wants his players to succeed in life and be good people.

"Also they are in the Pac-10, which is a really strong conference and they are still getting better."

He also says he has offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Central Michigan, Toledo and others. "I want to make a decision in late November or early December," Ingram said. "I'm not sure that'll happen but that's what I'm aiming for."

Ingram is a nine-time All-State track star as well. He runs a 10.69 100m and a 21.9 200m. His best long jump is 23-8.

He reports a 3.0 core GPA and an 18 ACT, which he may retake.
