TigerRag.com caught up with 5-star 2008 prospect Brendan Beal and Scout.com's No. 2 rated strong…
Great in Gainesville
Brendan Beal, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound five-star linebacker from Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pa., had a great visit with the Gators in Gainesville last weekend. He went with his mom, who "is in love with Florida" according to her son. "My expectations were high," Beal said. "And it was ridiculously great. Gainesville's a real college town and the people there really love their team and sports. It just blew me away. It was so loud I couldn't even hear myself. I love what they have going for them. I was hosted by Duke Lemmens (defensive end) and Butch Rowley (longsnapper). This trip really helped me see myself playing there. I loved the Gator Walk too." Despite his amazing official visit with the Gators, Beal couldn't bring himself to singling out a leader from amongst Florida, USC and LSU, his top three choices. "You could say Florida moved into a slight lead, but not really," he said. "I'm still very open-minded about both USC and LSU." Beal's parents still really like Boston College (Sept. 8 official trip) but the Eagles would have to leapfrog his big three to win this battle. "My top three are Florida, USC and LSU. They're all still even. Florida and USC both want me for the SAM linebacker spot," he said. "LSU says they want me to play MIKE. I'm going to go with my dad this weekend (Oct. 6) for my official visit to see LSU play Florida. I really like linebacker coach (Bradley Dale) Peveto. Right from the start you could see he was a great guy and a straight-shooter. We clicked. I also like Les Miles. LSU is recruiting me the hardest but I've never been to LSU before. "There's a 90% chance I'll go to visit USC on Oct.13 (Arizona game)," Beal said. "I believe I will but I'm not sure because I don't know if I want to go on three trips in a row like that. I'd like to announce my decision on the Thursday (Oct. 18) after my birthday (Oct. 12). But if I don't go to USC that weekend, I'll have to put off seeing them until November (Nov. 3) because they start playing away games after the 13th. Then I would have to delay everything. "But I've already been to the USC spring game so I might not need to go back," he said. "I really like Coach (Ken) Norton. The energy at USC is unbelievable. Plus they have a great business school and I want to study finance in college. If I go to USC, I might just go alone. My mom and dad probably wouldn't go." Beal reports a 4.3 core GPA. "I'm totally qualified," he said.
