No one expected the Union Redskins to come out of the starting gate on such a hot streak, but under the guidance of Brandon Rogers a 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior quarterback the offense has been virtually unstoppable.
The Redskins got off to a hot start by dismantling Canton McKinley (Ohio) in the nightcap game of the Herbstreit Challenge and the very next weekend they went on to knock off their bitter rivals the Jenks Trojans, who at the time was the top ranked team in the state.
“We have played really well so far,” Rogers said. “We need to keep improving every day in practice. If we do the right things to make our team better then we may have a shot at State and ultimately that is the main goal.”
After a year of running an option-based attack first year Union head coach Kirk Fridrich has re-installed a pro-style offensive system that put the Redskins on the map.

“It is like second nature to me,” Rogers responded when asked about his feelings regarding the offensive schemes. “It is the system I have been used to using growing up. It is like I am catching my second wind.”
“Our new quarterback coach Josh Blankenship has helped me a lot. He has been focused on helping with me my footwork and to get better at understanding my keys and reads.”
Rogers currently has one scholarship offer under his belt from Eastern Michigan, but there are a few other programs keeping a close watch on his development.
“Eastern Michigan still calls me every week,” Rogers informed. “Colorado State and Alabama still send a lot of mail.”
“I have not really decided anything yet as far as setting up any visits.”
As a junior, Rogers threw for 1,586 yards and 18 touchdowns and added an additional three touchdowns on the ground to lead his team to a playoff appearance.
