Pearl is not having one of their better seasons, but a pair of Pirates, Curtis Spann and Willie Mangum, have a good chance of signing a national letter of intent on signing day.
Curtis Spann - Spann has seven rushing touchdowns on the season and a 65 yard punt return for a score.
Curtis has the ability to make big plays in the return game and he has certainly helped the young Pearl offense some by shortening the field.
Spann has very good change of direction and he uses his blocks in the open field well. He has good speed, but he did not have a lot of opportunities to really show much explosion on the edges. He is a more polished runner than many of his in state peers, but he does not have a lot of help on offense to draw defenders out of the box.
Willie Mangum - Mangum had a hand in around ten tackles from his defensive end position. He pursues the ball well and he makes plays down the field. He has a good motor. He does have a tendency to play a little high which hurts his ability to get off blocks at times.
Canton High School's Joshua Jackson had another very nice outing. Jackson had took part in over a dozen tackles and had a pair of sacks. Jackson appears to have toned up a bit since we saw him this summer at the scout.com All-American combine in New Orleans. Jackson will get strong consideration for All-State honors for his play this season.
Josh has to handle a double team most on most plays and he still turns in double digit tackling totals week after week.
