Glenn Harbin, the 6-foot-5, 235-pound four-star defensive end has helped lead his team (McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Ala.) to a perfect 6-0 record. Harbin has over 20 tackles and four sacks.
Harbin, Scout.com's No. 23 defensive end, has 12 scholarship offers and says he now favors Alabama and Florida solidly over LSU, South Carolina and North Carolina. "I talk to the coaches at Alabama and Florida the most," Harbin said. "We talk every week and I like that they keep me involved and updated with everything going on.
"I really like the family environment at Alabama and think that coach Nick Saban is a really nice guy," he said. "He's smart and even though they've struggled at times I think they are getting better."
Harbin grew up following the Tide and attended the Arkansas and Georgia games. "I love the atmosphere there," he said. "It gets really loud and the fans are very loyal.
"Florida also has a great football atmosphere," he said. "Everybody gets really excited and even if they are losing they never give up on their team."
Despite Alabama and Florida being Harbin's top two, he says that LSU is has been this year's most impressive team - until their loss to Kentucky on Oct. 13. "I was really surprised they lost to Kentucky," he said. "They were doing great until that game and have been ranked No. 1 for most of the year. They have a great offense and defense and when they put it together they are tough to beat. I think they still have a chance to get to the national championship."
Harbin has not scheduled any official visits yet. "I won't take any visits until after my season," he said.
Two other schools that Harbin will likely visit are North Carolina and South Carolina. "South Carolina has a great program and they are still up-and-coming," he said. "I think they'll be even better in the next few years.
"North Carolina is also still young and rebuilding," he said. "They are trying to get the program back on track and said that I'd be able to play early and make an impact."
Harbin says he plans to take his time before making a decision. "I really want to have a good relationship with the coaches," he said. "I want to play for a coach that will push you, but not give up on you if you make a mistake."
He reports a 3.0 core GPA and a 17 ACT.
