Florida LB Gets Visit From Head Coach
"We've been off and on this season," Lerentee McCray said. "We've been a little inconsistent. We're off this week and play Westport in a big district game next week. We're 2-0 in the district right now with Westport and North Marion still left." McCray, 6-foot-2 and 205 plans, is having an excellent senior season. "I had 25 tackles in last week's game," he said. "I had 20 earlier in the season when we played Belleview. I have well over 100 now for the season in seven games. Our school record is 210 and counting the playoffs, I should have at least four more games left. I'm really hoping to get it." The talented linebacker prospect, who also plays running back for his Dunnellon High team, had an interesting visitor at his game last week. "Urban Meyer came to our game," he said. "I had 25 tackles so he saw a good game for me." McCray said the Gators are one of the schools who have continued recruiting him hard even after his commitment to Miami. "Yeah, Florida and also Tennessee," he said. "Coach Fulmer calls me. LSU has kept on me pretty hard. I've also been talking to South Carolina and Kentucky as well. I'm still committed to Miami though, just trying to check some other places out." McCray will be in Baton Rouge this weekend for his first official visit. "I've been watching them," he said. "They've played some really good games. They play good defense and I'm gonna see what it's like up there." After that visit, he doesn't have anything else lined up yet. "That's the only one so far," he said. "I don't know if I'll take one to Florida or not since it's right up the street and I've been there a lot already. I'll take one to Miami. I tried going to their game against Georgia Tech but it started at noon and I couldn't leave from here early enough. I'll try going to a different one." McCray spoke about the school he remains committed to. "I've watched their last two games on TV," he said. "It looked good against Georgia Tech but then they made a couple mistakes and it cost them. Against North Carolina, they made a lot of mistakes early on. They should win most of the games left because they can stick with everyone. I really like Coach Barrow down there." McCray plans to re-take his ACT very soon.
