"I am doing pretty good this year,"
added a very humble Khiry Cooper. "I have 30 catches for 560 yards and 12
TD's through six games."
And what about Calvary Baptist?
"We
are 6-0 right now. We are ranked #1 in Class 2A and #3 overall in the state."
What
improvements has Cooper seen in his game?
"In the offseason I put
on 10 to 15 pounds. I have gotten faster too. My excelleration is a lot better
than it was last year. Overall, I have just become a better overall player."
Khiry's
performances have not gone unnoticed.
"I have been Player of the Week
twice by the Shreveport Times, and I was Athlete of the Week by Channel
3 News. They even came by our practice on Monday to interview me. That was pretty
exciting."
Which colleges have taken notice?
"LSU offered
me three weeks ago when we played Rayville. They are the only school that I have
picked up an offer from lately. I talk to Florida a lot. Coach Gonzalus said they
are about to offer me real soon. I probably talk to LSU and Florida the most."
Anymore
schools calling?
"Arkansas, Nebraska, Tulsa, and La Tech. Ole Miss
just started calling me recently, and Texarkansas community college called for
baseball. They want me to come play ball over there for a year and see where I
go in the (baseball) draft from there. That is about it."
Cooper
has scheduled his first official visit.
"I am going to Florida on
November 24th when they play Florida State. I can't wait for that visit. It is
going to be very exciting."
Anybody else standing out?
"Definitely
Oklahoma. Oklahoma especially. They are really the only one that is new, but I
am loving Oklahoma right now. They have really picked it up. They are sending
me a bunch of letters, and I think my coach just sent them a tape. I think something
could happen with them real soon."
