Focus 2009: Richardson Breaks Out

Ada has quickly become a power in 5A football under the direction of head coach Steve Dean, and they are now starting to churn out collegiate level prospects. The state of Oklahoma will feature a very balanced class in 2009 and Ada’s star Colton Richardson will have the chance to be one of the most highly recruited prospects.

At 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, Colton Richardson plays both ways for the Ada Cougars, but it is easily apparent to see that he has the nasty disposition of a defender. He would currently look great as a free safety prospect, but with some growth he could certainly be an equally impressive linebacker.

“I will probably play strong safety or free safety,” Richardson said of his possible future in the defensive side of the ball. “I feel most comfortable there, but I will play anywhere.”

The junior believes that his hard hitting style is his biggest asset on the field.

“Probably power and getting to the ball,” Richardson said of his strengths. “I look up to my brother (Theron Richardson). He taught me how to be tough and do not ever give up.

Richardson has yet to reel in his first official scholarship offer, but he is drawing interest from a solid group of top programs.

“It is going pretty good right now,” Richardson informed of the recruiting process. “I am hearing from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Colorado State, Colorado, and Iowa State.”

Richardson will have plenty of time for recruiting, but for now he wants to help the Cougars win a State Championship.

“We have to be ready,” Richardson said of their chances. “You have to come out and fight so we can play up to our best ability and win.”

With size and a solid attitude it should only be a matter of time before Richardson starts to reel in some quality offers.
