Louisville, Ky., product Dylan Taylor is realizing what many kickers and punters realize each recruiting season, that there simply are not enough scholarship offers to go around at the position. While that may stop some from pursuing a career in college football, Taylor has the confidence that he can walk onto a program and earn that coveted scholarship.
Dylan Taylor
, a 6-foot, 185-pound kicker/punter from Ballard High School has not received any offers, however he is receiving interest from a handful of programs around the nation and has been told that he could walk onto some of the nations’ top programs and try to earn a scholarship with his leg. We caught up with him recently to talk about his recruiting activity and also watch some of his highlights.
“Right now I have been offered walk-on spots by
Florida
and
Louisville
,” Taylor said. “I have had phone contact with
Illinois
,
Miami
(OH) and
Ohio State
as well. I visited Illinois in April and they recently told me that it would be about mid-November before they would know what they can offer me. I also met with Coach Tressel and Coach Gillum at Ohio State, but they already have seven kickers and punters on the team.”
“I also met with the staff at
Florida State
and have been receiving emails from them, but haven’t heard anything definitive yet,” Taylor explained. “Miami has invited me for an official visit to their game against
Buffalo
on November 3rd and said we would discuss what they could offer me at that time.”
As for the programs that have offered Taylor walk-on status…
“Florida is a good program and the area is really nice. The coaches have been great with me and offered me the spot back in September. Walking on seems to be my best option at this point because I am confident I can earn a scholarship after that first year.”
“Louisville is close to home, I am a fan of the program and they have a very nice campus. Both of my parents teach at the school and the atmosphere at their games is great. I have a lot of fun their and the fan support is tremendous.”
