As we get closer to the end of the high school football season college programs are starting to receive verbal commitments from players across the country. Ohio is a hot-bed of talent as several prospects are starting to make their verbal commitments.

Hamilton High School has seen its share of college prospects over the course of the past several years. This fall head coach Jim Place has several players getting interest and one that’s made his college choice known.

At 6-foot-3, 205-pounds Damien McIntosh brings great physical size and the ability to run the field. Over the course of the summer McIntosh used summer camps and 7-on-7 events to show his abilities and catch the eyes of those around.

Since the start of his senior season Damien has seen his performance of the field catch the eyes of Akron, Buffalo, Ohio University, Toledo and others. After much thought and taking a visit the Big Blue’s linebacker has made the call to Toledo head coach Tom Amstutz and has given his verbal commitment.

“Toledo really sold me on their graduation rate and tradition. I know I don’t have to worry about Coach Amstutz going anywhere because he’s very happy at Toledo and has been there for a long time.”

While some feel McIntosh could grow into a defensive end the Rockets have told him he’ll start off as a linebacker and that suits McIntosh just fine.

“I really like playing linebacker and don’t care if I’m an outside or inside backer. I’ve been getting at least 10 tackles or more per game this season and have also recorded 4.5 sacks.”

While Damien is the first to make his college commitment he won’t be the last.

“We still have several guys that are being recruited and I’m hoping I can get Kenny Veal to also come to Toledo with me. They’ve offered him and we’re going up for a game this weekend we hope.”

Damien knows there is work to be done and is excited about his academic and athletic future.

“I’m interested in studying journalism in college and I know that I’ve got to get bigger and stronger while keeping my speed to have a successful college career.”
