Carrington Beckford was called up to the varsity squad as a sophomore, but then suffered a season ending injury before he could get time on the field. This season the defensive back has returned in tip-top condition and while his team in winless through six games, he has been able to impact the team in a number of different ways on the defensive side of the ball.
Carrington Beckford
has speed to burn, having been timed at 4.45 in the 40-yard dash, 4.12 in the short shuttle and 10.7 in the 100 meter dash and that ability has allowed Stamford High School to use him creatively this season in their defensive backfield, playing him at cornerback and both free and strong safety. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete has plans on playing corner at the collegiate level and as those times were all recorded during his sophomore season, he still has room to improve.
“Right now we’re 0-6 on the season, but we have a lot of young talent on the team and are just playing as hard as we can,” Beckford said. “I missed two games early, but have come back and have 25 tackles on the season in the past four games. I also run track and do very well in that sport and it obviously helps me tremendously with my ability to cover.”
While it is early in the recruiting process, Beckford has had constant contact from three schools in
Penn State
,
Boston College
and Maine.
“I like the way Penn State carry themselves as a program in general and think that I would fit in there,” Beckford explained. “They have a great football program and I just want to take a visit after the season to learn more about the school and see what they have to offer which I have spoken to the coaches about.”
“Boston College is undefeated right now and I am loving them because I get letters from them all the time,” Beckford stated. “I camped there this summer and was the MVP of the seven-on-seven tournament, so I was one of seven underclassmen that were invited to stay for the showcase. They have a great campus and the weight room, facilities and coaching staff were all very impressive.”
Carrington boasts a 39-inch vertical leap, benches 285 pounds and squats 355 pounds. He also does a solid job in the classroom with a 2.6 core GPA.
