Sacramento (Calif.) Inderkum defensive tackle Greg Grimes (6-2, 280), is having a solid senior year.
Grimes said that things with his recruitment have really began to pick up, thanks to a fine start to the 2007 season.
“They’re not really any new schools getting involved, mainly the same ones, but now I’m getting more heavily recruited,” said Griemes. “The whole Pac-10, San Diego State, Fresno State and Nevada are the main schools I’ve been hearing from.”
Grimes was offered by San Diego State, and the Aztecs are his lone offer, but much of his conversations with colleges have been significant in that they’re asking for more film with the potential of an offer.
“I’ve visited Cal, Washington, Oregon State and Oregon all unofficially. Every school said they wanted to see my film and stuff so I sent them game film, so they can get an early evaluation to make the decision. I’m sending out my highlight film next,” said Grimes.
Grimes said three schools were standing out for him.
“Cal, San Diego State and Washington are the top three right now,” said Grimes. “My dad played at Washington and I’d like to go there.”
San Diego State is expected to get one of Grimes’ official visit and he’s also planning to visit Oregon State.
“I was supposed to visit San Diego State, but I had to wait for the Clearinghouse, so I had to reschedule the visit there. But I’m all squared now with the Clearinghouse,” said Grimes.
Grimes said ideally he’d like to take all of his official visits, but its not set in stone.
“I want to (take all of my trips) but if I don’t, it’s still cool,” said Grimes. “I’d like to take all of them though.”
So far in 2007, Grimes has been playing both ways for Inderkum, helping them to a 6-1 start and making a big contribution in their 48-8 win over previously unbeaten River Valley, when he recorded nine tackles.
“The season has been going great, since we just beat undefeated River Valley,” said Grimes. “I’ve been playing right tackle and in the three technique. Right now, I’m modeling my play after Sedrick Ellis of USC. He’s a guy I watch a lot.”
Grimes has 53 tackles, four sacks, four forced fumbles and two pass deflections so far in 2007.
This weekend, Inderkum takes on Woodland Pioneer.
