Ocean Springs got the better of Pascagoula in a crucial district match-up this past Friday night. The two 5A South heavy weights slugged it out, with superstars from both teams making plays.

Ocean Springs

DeAndre Brown - DeAndre continues to show why he is one of the nation's best prospects. Despite playing in an offense that does not specialize in the pass, Brown finds a way to make his imprint on the contest even if that means he has to line up at tailback.

DeAndre is extremely dangerous in the open field. In this week's contest, Brown took a simple wide receiver screen and broke back across containment. A handful of broken tackles and 89 yards later he was in the end zone.

Brown demonstrates great body control as well as tremendous ability to evade would be tacklers. Every time DeAndre touches the ball, you expect him to score. He expects to score too and appears disappointed when he does not.

T.J. Lawrence - T.J. is a bit undersized for the BCS level, but there is certainly a place at the college level for a player of his ability.

Lawrence gets most of his yards after first contact and despite his smaller statue he generally runs through arm tackles. T.J. has good speed and power for his size.

Vick Ballard - Ballard is a very impressive running back prospect. Vick is very difficult to bring down when he gets his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage. He has good vision and can pick his way through the defense.

Ballard is perhaps most impressive as a receiver out of the back field. Vick catches and turns up field as quick as anyone. He sets up his blocks well in the open field and he has a nose for the chains.

Jonathan DeFlanders - DeFlanders fashions himself as more of a power back. He likes to run between the tackles, but has the ability to bounce things outside if he needs to as he did on his 9 yard run in the second quarter.

Trailing in the second half, DeFlanders ran with purpose attempting to give his team a spark. Jonathan is very competitive and he plays with a lot of emotion.

Logan Burt - Burt does not shy away from contact and is very steady player from his linebacker position. He is not flashy, but he has more of a blue collar appeal. He has no problem taking on blocks and he has the strength to get off of blocks.

Eric Hollis - Hollis has very good size and has the frame to really put on some muscle. Eric uses his hands well and appears to enjoy run blocking. He has some strength and conditioning work to do, but in the right system he could be a contributor.

Martez Thompson - Thompson is a junior and may be Pascagoula's top prospect for the 2009 signning class.

Thompson does well in run support from his cornerback position. At the point of contact Thompson commits 100% to the tackle.
