Focus '09: Brent Caprio

Brent Caprio will be one of the many quarterbacks from New Jersey in the Class of 2009 that will be vying for scholarship offers from schools all over the area. At this point it looks like he has a bit of a head start with numerous visits under his belt and has been invited out to games by quite a few programs already.

Brent Caprio, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound signal caller from Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, N.J., is in the process of enjoying a successful 7-1 season right now and has done his fair share for the Mustangs, passing for 693 yards and seven touchdowns to only two interceptions. Caprio has also made a difference with his legs, rushing for 310 yards and eight scores. Having already been invited to the U.S. Army All-American Combine in January, this quarterback is off to a great start.

“Right now I have been invited to games by Rutgers, Syracuse, Maryland and Penn State and get mail regularly from other schools like Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Virginia and Purdue,” Caprio explained. “I went to a few quarterback camps this summer, but I only attended one camp at a school which was Penn State.”

“I had a lot of fun at Penn State and really like the school,” Caprio said. “I am going to their game against Purdue this weekend and am really looking forward to the experience. I have a lot of family in the Happy Valley area and my parents are both originally from there, so I have always been a fan of the program. They always seem to be well coached and are traditionally a great program. The fan base is very supportive, they have a great stadium and the area is beautiful there. I also know that I would be receiving a great education at Penn State.”

“Rutgers is really on the rise right now and I like how organized and disciplined they seem to be,” Caprio stated. “The coaches seem to spend a lot of time giving their players individual attention to help them with their game and when I was at the South Florida game the atmosphere was awesome. The team played really well and I liked the style of coaching because they took some risks that really paid off.”

“I haven’t been to Maryland yet, but I have a visit set up to see them play Boston College and one of my assistant coaches went there and has been talking to their coaching staff about me. They offer great academics and I think I would have a great shot at playing early there.”

As a sophomore, Caprio passed for 911 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 534 yards and nine touchdowns. He was named second-team All-League and was an honorable mention selection by the Press of Atlantic City.

Caprio carries a 4.6 weighted GPA with honors and AP classes. He bench presses 250 pounds and squats 405 pounds.
