Churchville, N.Y., native Averin Collier is in the process of taking and setting up official visits right now and he took his first this past weekend to watch the Boston College Eagles host the Florida State Seminoles. His next official visit could be to his older brother’s school in Pittsburgh and others are being considered as well.

Despite an impressive 8-1 record this season, Averin Collier and his Churchville-Chili High School teammates were knocked off in the first round of the playoffs this past weekend, ending the season for the 5-foot-11, 200-pound running back. Collier did well on both sides of the ball this season, amassing 1100 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground and also threw for a touchdown. On defense, he registered 31 sacks, a forced fumble, broke up seven passes and returned an interception for a touchdown. We spoke to him recently about his recruiting and what he sees happening down the road.

“I just took an official visit to Boston College this weekend and got to get a good feel for the campus and what it would be like to go there,” Collier stated. “I was surprised how small the school actually was, but I don’t mean that in a negative or positive way. It was just an observation.”

“One thing that was nice was getting to know the coaches and players while I was up in Chestnut Hill,” Collier added. “My host Will Thompson was a great guy and so were the rest of the players I met. I spent time with the running backs coach and Head Coach Jeff Jagodzinski who were both fun guys that I really enjoyed my time with. Boston College is definitely a great program that is committed to hard work and winning championships. The thing I noticed most about them was how focused and intense they were about everything they did there. I’d rate the visit and eight overall.”

Pittsburgh is a school that I will also probably take and official visit to even though I have already been there dozens of times,” Collier explained. “I am very familiar with the campus and city and just think that the atmosphere there is cool. I like that city feel and the environment on campus. Coach Dave Walker and I are very close and they all know my family well from recruiting my brother. I like the entire staff and really feel at home when I am at Pittsburgh.”

Alabama and North Carolina are the latest schools to take interest in me, so we’ll see where that goes,” Collier said. “Right now I would say that Pittsburgh and Clemson stand out the most and I also like Boston College.”

Collier plans to have his decision made before the New Year.
