What Athletic Director Jeff Sheppard Says: "One of the things I noticed when I got here was there is a lot of school spirit. Not only in the traditional sports of football and basketball, but among soccer, volleyball and others. The coaches really care about the kids. I also noticed a lot of alumni come back for the games. If they played basketball (at Brookhaven), they come back for the football game. A lot of alumni come back as coaches, too. That is totally positive for the school. The kids support each other. The other day the football players came in from practice and watched the girls play volleyball.”
Hot topics on campus: The football team going to the playoffs and the excitement of possible state titles in both boys’ and girls’ basketball this winter. Swimmers are excited that, after several years off, the school is relaunching boys’ and girls teams again this winter.
Heard on the CD players: Sheppard says: “Anything that’s popular on the
radio.”
Seen around school: Ohio High School Athletic Association banners
encouraging sportsmanship and integrity. There are a lot of flyers up reminding people about signing up for winter sports.
Things to do on the weekend: Ohio State football games, Columbus Blue Jacket NHL games, going to the mall or the movies. Columbus is especially lucky to have such an active concert scene with The Value City Arena, the Nationwide Arena (where the Blue Jackets play), Veterans Memorial Stadium and the Polarus Ampitheater, an outdoor venue. What else is hot this time of year? Haunted houses, of course.
Landmarks nearby: The Ohio State campus, the Polarus Mall, the Easton Mall,
the Ohio State Fairgrounds, The Columbus Crews Stadium.
