Raevon Samuel, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound three-star wide receiver from Canyon Springs High School in Las Vegas, Nev., has scored seven touchdowns, leading his team to a 10-1 record and a berth in the second round of the playoffs.
Samuel says he has approximately 17 scholarship offers and now favors Oregon slightly over West Virginia, Rutgers, California and Nebraska. All favorites offered as well as UNLV, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State among others.
"Oregon is recruiting me the hardest," Samuel said. "I like the style of football they play. They run the spread offense and get the wide receiver the ball a lot. They are doing really good. I watched the Arizona State game on TV (Nov. 3) and that's probably the best I've seen them play all year. They looked great."
Samuel doesn't have any official visits scheduled yet and says he probably won't until after his playoffs are over. "All the schools are really trying to get me to take a visit, especially since they only have few games left," he said. "I might not be able to take any visits this month though and am going to wait until after the playoffs.
"I'm not in a hurry though," he said. "I'm taking it slow and I probably won't decide until February. I want to play for a passing offense and where I'll get the ball.
"I think I'd probably prefer to stay close, but I'm not sure yet," he said. "I want to take a visit to an East Coast school and see what it's like. I like Rutgers and West Virginia because they are both pretty young teams and still up-and-coming.
"But I like California too and they aren't too far away. They have a great program every year and they are also one of the best public schools in the nation every year."
Growing up Samuel says he always followed USC, but the Trojans are not recruiting him.
While the Trojans haven't been showing interest, he says that Nebraska has been recruiting him very hard. "I don't really know much about them," he admitted. "They send me a lot of mail and they said before that they'd be able to get me the ball a lot and they really think that I'd fit in well with their offense. I haven't really seen them play at all this year."
"I'm tall and I have good speed," Samuel said. "I can jump high and I play hard." He benches 225 pounds and claims a 39" vertical jump.
He reports a 3.2 core GPA and took the SAT on Oct. 6.
