4-Star LB plans 2nd visit
"We didn't make it into the playoffs," Lerentee McCray said. "We finished in a tie for second in our district but we lost to Williston in a tiebreaker." McCray, 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, had an excellent 10-game season. "I finished with 170-something tackles," he said. "I was shooting for the school record of 210 but didn't get it. But the person who has that record also got to count the playoffs. I thought I had a good year though I wish the team could have gone further." The talented linebacker prospect remains a major recruiting target for a lot of programs. "I've already visited LSU and now I have a second visit scheduled for Tennessee on December 7th," he said. "I'll probably also visit West Virginia and Wisconsin coming up. My fifth one will be Miami, probably sometime in January." McCray committed to the Hurricanes early but that never stopped other schools from recruiting him. "I'm still committed but I'm keeping my options open," he said. "I won't need to take a visit to Florida since I've been there a few times before and since it's so close to my house. Those are the schools I'm still looking at." The talented linebacker has been watching the Miami season closely and offered his thoughts. "I know it's an off year for them," he said. "Everyone has them. Some games I can see but others I just can't understand how they lose like they do. Oklahoma and Virginia were really the only two blowouts and even Oklahoma was a close game in the third quarter." McCray said he talks to the Miami coaches on a weekly basis. "They say they plan on bringing in 30 new guys because they have less players on scholarship this year," he said. "They need a lot of help and bringing in 30 new good players will really help a lot." Have the struggles of the Hurricanes in recent weeks had any type of impact on the status of his commitment? "Maybe some," he said. "The big thing with me, though, is that when I go on my official visit there, I wanna see what the coaches say about the season -- how they treat it, how they plan on bouncing back. I wanna see their vision and that will give me a better idea."
